Bank Gaborone appoints Tsaone Raboloko as Managing Director
  • Tsaone Segaetsho

Bank Gaborone has confirmed the appointment of Tsaone Raboloko as its Managing Director, effective 9 October 2026, marking a new chapter in the bank’s leadership as it advances its turnaround strategy and positions itself for sustainable growth.

Raboloko’s appointment follows the successful conclusion of a recruitment process and the receipt of regulatory approval. He had served as Acting Managing Director since the end of June 2026, providing leadership continuity during a period of strategic transformation for the bank.

An experienced banking executive with expertise spanning finance, risk management and regulatory compliance, Raboloko brings an extensive understanding of Bank Gaborone’s operations, institutional priorities and Botswana’s financial services landscape.

His career at the bank began in February 2018 when he joined as Head of Risk and Compliance. He subsequently assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer in April 2022, before being entrusted with the Acting Managing Director role earlier this year.

The appointment comes at a pivotal stage for Bank Gaborone as the institution continues implementing measures aimed at strengthening its operational performance, enhancing business resilience and establishing a sustainable foundation for long-term growth.

According to the bank, initiatives undertaken as part of its turnaround strategy have begun yielding positive results, creating opportunities to consolidate operational improvements and pursue future growth despite prevailing challenges in the banking environment.

Bank Gaborone Board Chairperson Christo de Vries described the appointment as an important step towards maintaining strategic momentum and ensuring continuity in the execution of the bank’s priorities.

“Tsaone’s appointment provides important continuity at a time when Bank Gaborone is making encouraging progress in strengthening the business. He understands our Bank, our people and the environment in which we operate, and he has been closely involved in the journey we are on,” de Vries said.

He expressed confidence in Raboloko’s ability to consolidate the progress achieved and guide the institution towards improved performance and sustainable value creation.

“The Board has every confidence in his ability to build on the progress achieved and lead Bank Gaborone with the focus and discipline required to create sustainable value for our customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders,” he added.

For Raboloko, the appointment represents both a significant professional milestone and an opportunity to contribute further to the development of Botswana’s financial services sector.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust placed in me to lead Bank Gaborone. Having been part of the Bank’s journey, I have seen firsthand the dedication of our people, the resilience of our customers, and the important role we play in supporting Botswana’s growth and prosperity,” he said.

He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting individuals, empowering businesses and contributing to national economic development through accessible and responsive financial services.

“As a proudly Botswana-focused institution, we remain committed to helping individuals achieve their ambitions, empowering businesses to grow, and contributing to the development of our nation,” Raboloko said.

Looking ahead, he emphasised the importance of collaboration with employees, customers, shareholders, regulators and communities in strengthening the institution’s position within Botswana’s banking sector.

He also highlighted the bank’s role within the broader Capricorn Group, underscoring the importance of aligning institutional performance with the group’s long-term value creation objectives.

“I look forward to working alongside our talented team, our customers, shareholders, regulators, and communities to build on our strong foundation and shape an even brighter future for Bank Gaborone, the wider Capricorn Group and Botswana,” he said.

The bank also acknowledged the contribution of its employees throughout the leadership transition and the ongoing implementation of its strategic priorities, attributing the progress achieved to the collective commitment and resilience of its workforce.

As part of Capricorn Group, Bank Gaborone continues to play a role in advancing the group’s ambitions of creating sustainable value for customers, employees, shareholders and other stakeholders.

Raboloko now assumes responsibility for steering the bank through the next phase of its transformation, with a focus on disciplined strategy execution, operational improvement and strengthening its contribution to Botswana’s economic development.
