Absa Backs Agricultural Growth at Ghanzi Show
  • Tsaone Segaetsho

Absa Bank Botswana has reaffirmed its commitment to agricultural development, underscoring the sector’s role as a catalyst for national prosperity.

Speaking at the Ghanzi Agricultural Show, Chief Executive Officer Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane said the bank’s long-standing partnership with the event reflects its belief in agriculture’s transformative potential.

“Agriculture is the backbone of Botswana’s economy, and Absa is proud to stand with our farmers and agri-businesses as they innovate and grow,” Pheko-Moshagane said.

“Our involvement in initiatives like the Ghanzi Show isn’t just sponsorship; it’s an investment in Botswana’s future. By bridging financial gaps and fostering sectoral resilience, we help build an economy that thrives through multiple sectors.”

Founded in 1974, the Ghanzi Agricultural Show is one of Botswana’s premier agricultural showcases, attracting farmers, agri-businesses and industry stakeholders from across the country. The show features livestock exhibitions, trade and marketing platforms, as well as product and service demonstrations from local and regional participants. For half a century, it has served as a national stage for advancing innovation and promoting agri-business excellence.

Absa has committed to unlocking opportunities in agriculture through tailored financing, capacity-building initiatives and strategic partnerships. “Our participation in the Ghanzi Show demonstrates the critical role financial institutions must play in supporting high-impact sectors,” Pheko-Moshagane added.

According to a company statement, the Ghanzi Agricultural Show remains a key platform for showcasing innovation, adopting modern technologies and strengthening Botswana’s agricultural value chain, particularly in the globally recognised beef industry. Absa’s continued involvement, the statement said, aligns with national priorities to reduce economic dependence and foster sectoral resilience.

Recently named Best Agri Business Bank Botswana 2024 by the Global Banking & Finance Review Awards, Absa has been recognised for delivering bespoke financial solutions to empower farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

“These accolades highlight our dedication to innovation, client-centric services and sustainable sectoral growth,” the bank said.
