The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday confirmed the appointment of Aobakwe Aupa Monyatsi as its Chief Executive Officer effective April 2025.
The appointment follows Monyatsi’s announced departure from his role as Group Chief Executive Officer at Letshego Holdings earlier this week, with The Executive Botswana reporting the BSE as his next destination.
In a statement issued on Friday, the BSE highlights that Monyatsi’s appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process, and that the appointment marks a pivotal moment in the local bourse’s journey to transforming Botswana’s capital markets into a premier continental staple.
Monyatsi assumes the role that was vacated by Thapelo Tsheole in May 2024, with Kopano Bolokwe serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the bourse in the intermittent period.
The BSE describes Monyatsi as a financial sector giant, who is rated among the top Chief Executive Officers continentally and that his arrival at the bourse will catalyse the next phase of its growth, similar to the growth he has attained for his former employers.
The BSE further called on all stakeholders to unite in the shared goal of shaping Botswana’s financial future, allowing the bourse to be a beacon of financial innovation in Africa.
The statement further thanked Bolokwe for steering the bourse through the transitional period.
