The Board of the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has announced the appointment of Oteng Keabetswe as the Corporation’s substantive Managing Director, effective 1 February 2026.
He has served as Caretaker Managing Director since August 2025.
A statement issued by the Board on Thursday said the appointment concludes a six-month caretaker period marked by steady leadership and clear strategic direction.
“The appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in Mr Keabetswe’s leadership acumen, strategic judgement and proven ability to advance BDC’s mandate as Botswana’s leading investment and development finance institution,” it added.
During his caretaker tenure, Keabetswe led a deliberate strategic repositioning of BDC towards a more impact-driven, catalytic investment model, anchored by large-scale projects designed to deliver measurable economic and social returns.
Under his leadership, the Corporation sharpened its focus on transformative investments aligned with national development priorities and long-term economic competitiveness.
Notably, he oversaw the establishment of the Unity Healthcare Botswana Partnership Fund, an intervention aimed at addressing national shortages of essential medicines and healthcare supplies by strengthening local supply chains and enhancing health security.
He also led the execution of more than P600 million in capital recycling transactions, unlocking value from mature industries and non-strategic assets for redeployment into higher-impact domestic investments. Over the same period, BDC deployed USD 10 million to Letshego Holdings through an impact facility structured to expand inclusive finance, programme lending and enterprise development.
“Looking ahead, BDC under Mr Keabetswe’s leadership will remain firmly focused on investments that catalyse private-sector development, enable transformative industry-level interventions, and strengthen Botswana’s long-term economic resilience and competitiveness,” the statement said.
