President Duma Boko is set to join global leaders, industry stakeholders and players from across the jewellery value chain at the prestigious Jewelers Circular Keystone (JCK) show, taking place in Las Vegas from 4 to 6 June 2025.
President Boko will deliver a keynote presentation on Botswana’s diamond sector to an audience of approximately 30 000 stakeholders, including buyers, sellers, and influencers from nearly 130 countries worldwide.
Speaking on Tuesday, President Boko expressed concern over the current slowdown in diamond sales, highlighting the urgency of reinvigorating the country’s marketing strategy for rough stones. He revealed that he had summoned representatives from the national diamond marketing entity, Okavango Diamond Company, to discuss strategic approaches to enhance market traction. Despite the prevailing economic uncertainty caused by a slump in diamond revenues, the President remained confident that Botswana’s diamonds would regain their appeal on the global stage, stressing the need for deliberate and intensified efforts to achieve this outcome.
In a government statement issued on Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that President Boko’s participation at JCK presents a timely opportunity to showcase Botswana’s diamond narrative on a world-class platform. Described by organisers as “a one-stop destination with the most diverse selection of professionals and products—this is where the magic happens,” JCK brings together the end-users of diamonds—jewellers and luxury retailers—under one roof.
“President Boko’s participation in the JCK event will serve to amplify Botswana’s Diamonds for Development story. The President will address the international jewellery community, affirming Botswana’s position not only as a leading global source of natural diamonds, but also as a storyteller in luxury and sustainability—one that blends origin, ethics, and excellence,” the official government communication stated.
The statement further emphasised, “JCK offers a platform for Botswana to promote its natural diamonds as more than a commodity—they represent a journey rooted in nature, formed over billions of years, and intrinsically tied to real human impact. It is a story no laboratory-grown diamond can replicate.”
Following the JCK showcase, President Boko is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the World Federation of Diamond Bourses Annual Dinner in New York next Tuesday, further cementing Botswana’s presence in the global diamond narrative.
