First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), the country’s largest bank by scale, has delivered a strong performance for the year ending 30 June 2025, with results largely underpinned by increased client activity.
Presenting the results this week, FNBB Chief Executive Officer, Steven Bogatsu, said the bank’s purpose remains to make growth meaningful for the people and businesses of Botswana.
“CashPlus has expanded to nearly 1 800 agents, serving over 400 000 clients nationwide. Through FirstPreneur, 146 entrepreneurs are growing with mentorship and funding support. Looking ahead, we are focused on equipping our people to adapt and lead, creating simpler and more personalised client experiences, embracing innovation, and building sustainability,” said Bogatsu.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mbako Mbo, highlighted that client activity continued to expand, reflecting the bank’s commitment to financial inclusion. In 2025 alone, eWallet transactions reached 15 million, while CashPlus processed 8.4 million transactions, a 25 per cent increase, supported by a network of 1 794 agents across every district in Botswana.
Retail card usage also rose sharply, with 18.1 million transactions, up 17 per cent on 2024. Dr Mbo noted that clients using FNB point-of-sale (POS) machines continue to benefit from free swipes, ensuring convenient and cost-effective access to banking services.
“These results show how we are delivering inclusive and accessible solutions that create meaningful impact for our clients and communities,” he said.
Acting Chief Financial Officer, Orapeleng Senwelo, added that the rise in client activity was a key driver behind the bank’s Profit Before Tax of P1.9 billion. Net advances to customers grew by 11 per cent to P20.6 billion, while deposits closed the year at P26.5 billion.
“We continue to balance performance with responsibility and deliver sustainable returns,” said Senwelo.
