FNBB Wins Big at 2025 Euromoney Awards

First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) has been recognised with two major accolades at the 2025 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, winning Best Bank in Botswana and, for the first time, Best Bank for ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance).

The awards, among the most prestigious in global banking since their inception in 1992, honour institutions for strategic execution, innovation, financial performance and societal impact.

“We are truly humbled by this recognition,” said FNBB CEO Steven Lefentse Bogatsu. At the heart of everything we do is a deep responsibility to serve our clients meaningfully, not just through financial products, but by building a better future alongside them.”

FNB Botswana’s dual win highlights its commitment to purpose-led banking that drives economic inclusion and social progress. The Bank’s CashPlus network of over 1,700 agents expands banking services to underserved communities, while its eWallet Pro solution enables secure bulk payments, improving access to financial services for unbanked individuals.

The Bank also disbursed over P500 million in sustainable finance, supporting transformative projects including Botswana’s first large-scale citrus farm, the 60MW Mmadinare Solar Power Plant, and the Barloworld Green Building in Phakalane.

Through initiatives like the FirstPreneur SME Development Programme and active participation in the national Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP), FNBB empowers entrepreneurs and allocates more than 80% of procurement to citizen-owned businesses.

The Bank’s social investment footprint is equally notable: P54 million sponsorship of the Botswana Premier League and Senior National Women’s Football Team, P7 million channelled into other sporting codes, and P11 million disbursed by the FNB Foundation in 2024 alone. Its financial literacy programmes reached more than 800,000 people last year, equipping them with critical money management skills.

In addition, FNBB is investing in operational sustainability, commissioning its first solar-powered branch in Francistown and implementing energy, water and waste efficiency measures across its network.

“Winning both Best Bank and Best Bank for ESG affirms our strategy of being a digitally advanced, socially conscious and future-ready financial institution,” said Bogatsu.
