Mukushi Appointed ABSA Bank Finance Director
  • Tsaone Segaetsho

After a competitive recruitment process, the Board of Directors of ABSA Bank Botswana Limited has announced the appointment of Kudakwashe Mukushi as the new Finance Director and Executive Director, effective 01 June 2025.

His appointment as Executive Director is subject to shareholder approval at the Company’s 40th Annual General Meeting.

Mukushi brings with him over 23 years of distinguished experience in the financial services industry, having held senior leadership roles in financial strategy, corporate governance, and investment management across Southern Africa. His expertise spans insurance, pensions, asset management, and banking — sectors in which he has consistently delivered value-driven leadership.

A seasoned executive, Mukushi is recognised for his strategic oversight in capital management, IFRS-compliant financial reporting, stakeholder engagement, and risk and compliance functions. His track record includes serving as Chief Financial Officer in publicly listed companies, where he led cross-functional teams and contributed significantly to shareholder returns and sustainable growth.

He has also served on several boards in Botswana, Malawi, and Zambia as a Non-Executive Director, frequently chairing audit and investment committees. This breadth of governance experience adds considerable depth to his new role at ABSA, positioning him to help steer the bank’s strategic financial direction in an evolving regional banking landscape.

Mukushi holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Solusi University (Zimbabwe), and is a CFA Charterholder. He is a Fellow of both the Association of Chartered Accountants and the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School’s Senior Executive Program for Africa — a testament to his global outlook and leadership acumen.

In a statement this week, the Board expressed confidence that Mukushi’s appointment will reinforce the company’s strategic ambitions, enhance shareholder value, and advance ABSA’s commitment to the communities it serves.

The Board also extended its gratitude to Leroy Klein, who has served as Interim Finance Director over the past year, commending his dedication and professionalism. Klein will continue in his substantive role as Chief Risk Officer.

“With this appointment, ABSA Bank Botswana signals its continued focus on leadership excellence and strong corporate governance as it navigates a dynamic financial environment and drives long-term value creation,” the statement added.
