BBS Bank appoints Odhong as COO
  • Tsaone Segaetsho

BBS has announced the appointment of Elly Odhong as Chief Operations Officer effective 06 January 2025.

Boasting 30 years of experience in the banking sector, Odhong is armed with a Master of Arts (MA) in Leading Innovation and Change Management from the York St John University and is a member of Associate Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB).

Odhong will be responsible for the bank’s day-to-day operations and will deputise Managing Director, Pedzani Tafa.

Odhong is expected to steer Botswana’s first indigenous bank, which only received its commercial banking license in 2022. The new COO joins the BSE-listed bank after it recorded a profit of P5.6 million after having been dogged by losses since 2018.

Odhong, being experienced, is expected to help Tafa to steer the BBS boat into consistency and success.

“BBS Bank looks forward to Elly’s invaluable contribution to its growth and wishes him a successful tenure,” the bank informed its stakeholders through a press statement on Tuesday.

Prior to his recent appointment, Odhong served as the Head of Retail Banking at Nairobi-based Commercial International Bank. His 30-years of experience is in retail banking, business banking, distribution, product development, cards management, and sales and strategy.

Odhong comes to Botswana having worked across the African continent, having plied his trade in large economies such as his native Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and South Sudan.
